ARTEMIDE PRESENTS IXA
Lighting rediscovers the power of movement
29 October 2024
Pregnana Milanese, 30 October 2024 - Artemide, the leading Italian lighting company, presents the Ixa collection, designed by the international studio Foster+Partners. Ixa is an innovative family of lighting solutions aimed at transforming both domestic and work environments. With an intelligent design, Ixa merges aesthetics and functionality, allowing light to be directed precisely where it is needed, offering maximum freedom of movement.
At the heart of the Ixa system is a 10 cm diameter adjustable spherical head that can rotate 360 degrees. This distinctive feature separates power from mechanics by utilising a magnetic connection, allowing for free rotation and orientation of light in any direction. From this innovative concept, several versions of Ixa emerge, including table lamps, reading lamps, floor lamps, wall lamps, and models with an arm.
The spherical head also transforms into a minimalist wall light, maintaining freedom of movement thanks to the magnet connecting it to a wall-mounting base. The base variants can include an integrated driver or be minimized to hide behind the head, ensuring an elegant and discreet appearance. The cable version introduces a practical detail: a circular surface guides the cable along the wall, creating an aesthetic synergy with the environment.
The two variants of the Ixa Wall Spot offer compact and practical solutions, enhancing traditional lighting with new possibilities. The power switch on the head and the ease of rotation invite interaction, allowing users to customise lighting scenarios according to their individual needs.
For those seeking something larger, Ixa XL is available. With a 15 cm diameter head, this version is designed to pair with new wall and ceiling structures that balance its weight and meet various lighting needs. In this version, the head slides and rotates through a calibrated mechanism, maintaining freedom of movement at 360 degrees.
The larger head precisely controls the beam of light and includes a dim-to-warm source, which warms the color temperature as the intensity is reduced. This allows for the creation of different atmospheres: from functional and intense lighting to a warm and inviting glow, ideal for more intimate moments.
A central aspect of the Ixa collection is its commitment to sustainability. Artemide and Foster+Partners have developed this collection with environmental impact in mind at every stage of the design process. The materials used are chosen for their low ecological footprint, ensuring that production adheres to the highest sustainability standards.
Furthermore, Ixa is designed to last. The ease of assembly and disassembly of the various parts reduces packaging size and, consequently, the environmental impact of transportation. This modularity not only facilitates repairs and upgrades but also promotes a responsible approach to the product’s lifespan, encouraging users to maintain and reuse their lighting solutions.
The dim-to-warm technology present in some variants not only enhances the lighting experience but also contributes to greater energy efficiency. The ability to adjust both intensity and color temperature allows for tailored lighting to suit different daily activities, reducing energy consumption without compromising light quality.
Ixa is designed to encourage interaction, allowing users to explore and adjust the light according to their needs. Every detail reflects a commitment to sustainability, creating a balance between innovation, design, and environmental responsibility, while highlighting the importance of mindful choices in a world that is evolving towards greater respect for the environment.
"Inspired by the dynamic sculptures of Alexander Calder, the design interprets the idea of 'elegant balance' through precision engineering. The industrial design studio at Foster + Partners collaborates with artisans and manufacturers to create exceptional and timeless products that have evolved through an iterative design process. Subtle variations in applied weight and movement have inspired the design of the Ixa lamp, providing users with a highly personalised analog experience."
